Suspension for the belted generation

Belts & Re-Belting

Many modern machine-room-less lifts hang on coated steel belts rather than wire rope. Re-Ropes extends its survey–supply–fit–guarantee method to belted installations: assessing belt and pulley condition, supplying compliant replacement belts, and re-belting with manufacturer-correct procedure.

Overview

Belts changed lift suspension: flat, polyurethane-coated steel cords running on small, crowned pulleys. They wear differently to ropes — cord breaks hide beneath coating, jackets crack and shed, and pulley alignment matters even more — but the lifecycle logic is identical: inspect, plan, replace, certify.

In detail

Our engineers survey belted systems with the appropriate methods, source the correct belt for the platform, and complete re-belting works with alignment and tensioning set to specification — bringing independent supply-and-fit choice to installations that have often only ever known the OEM.

Belt works

  • Belt condition surveys

Jacket condition, cord integrity indicators, pulley wear and alignment

  • Replacement belt supply

Correct belt family and rating for the platform

  • Re-belting works

Removal, installation, tensioning and commissioning checks

  • Pulley assessment

Crown, wear and alignment checked alongside the belts

Why it matters

01

Belts fail differently

The coating hides the load-bearing cords, so belted systems rely heavily on correct inspection technique and honest replacement criteria. There is no room for guesswork.

02

Independence reaches belts too

When lifts moved from rope to belt, suspension work moved back to the OEMs — belts were harder to source independently. Independent supply-and-fit gives owners and maintainers that choice back.

Common questions

Asked before every engagement.

Something more specific? A specialist will answer it directly.

Ask us
Can belts be replaced independently of the OEM?

In many cases, yes. Compliant replacement belts are available for the common platforms, and we install and tension them to the platform’s own procedure. Where a platform genuinely cannot be worked on independently, we will tell you straight away.

How is belt wear assessed if the cords are hidden?

Through jacket condition, dimensional checks, platform-specific indicators and service history — and by respecting the manufacturer’s discard criteria. When indicators disagree, the conservative call wins.
