Survey, supply, fit and guarantee — the original service

Lift Re-Roping — Supply & Fit

Lift re-roping is the planned replacement of a lift’s suspension ropes — and, where required, its governor and compensating ropes — restoring the margins of safety, ride quality and traction the installation was designed with. Re-Ropes pioneered independent supply-and-fit re-roping in the UK in 1986 and still works to the same four-word method: survey, supply, fit, guarantee.

Overview

Every traction lift hangs on a set of steel wire ropes that are quietly consumed by service: wire breaks, diameter reduction, core compaction, or wear caused by worn traction sheaves and diverters. Re-roping is not a distress purchase — done at the right moment it is routine, planned maintenance that protects sheaves, machines and downtime budgets.

In detail

Our engineers survey the complete roping system first — ropes, terminations, sheaves, diverters and sprockets — because new ropes on worn grooves is money wasted. You receive a written quotation, certified ropes cut and terminated for the installation, fitting by engineers who do this every working day, an operational check under load, and certificates plus our guarantee on completion.

The supply & fit service

  • Full roping survey

Ropes, terminations, sheaves, diverters and sprockets assessed before anything is quoted

  • Written quotation

Clear scope and price — no surprises at invoice

  • Certified rope supply

Suspension ropes to suit the installation, with certificates issued for every set

  • Nationwide fitting

Trained fitting teams across the UK and Ireland, working to lift-industry site discipline

  • Post-fit operational checks

Correct operation verified before handover, tensions equalised

  • Guarantee & documentation

Site sign-off, emailed certificates and our guarantee on the work

Beyond suspension ropes

  • Governor rope replacement

Overspeed governor ropes supplied and fitted

  • Compensating ropes & chains

    High-travel compensation renewed and balanced

  • Rope re-tensioning & shortening

Managing constructional stretch on new installations

  • Belt-suspended units

    Re-belting works on belted machines

Why it matters

01

Ropes are consumed, not permanent

Suspension ropes are designed to wear. Broken wires, diameter loss and core failure follow duty — the question is never if, but when, and whether the replacement is planned or forced.

02

New ropes deserve sound grooves

Fitting new ropes into worn or uneven grooves destroys them early. Our survey-first method exists so you re-rope once, properly — not twice, expensively.

03

Independence keeps you in control

As the original independent, we supply and fit for OEMs, independents and duty holders alike — you get manufacturer-quality rope without being tied to a maintenance contract you didn’t choose.

Common questions

Asked before every engagement.

Something more specific? A specialist will answer it directly.

Ask us
How long does a lift re-rope take?

A straightforward passenger lift is typically re-roped in a day; high-rise, high-travel or compensated installations take longer. The survey establishes the programme in advance so downtime is agreed, not discovered.

How do I know my lift needs re-roping?

Indicators include broken wires, rope diameter reduction, visible rouging (red dust from internal wear), uneven rope tensions, ride noise and sheave groove wear. The competent person’s thorough examination report will often flag deterioration — our free survey turns that flag into a scoped, priced recommendation.

Do you replace ropes on any make of lift?

Yes — the service is independent of manufacturer. We rope Otis, Schindler, KONE, Orona, Stannah and every major and independent installation, supplying ropes to suit the original specification or an engineered equivalent.

What documentation do we receive?

Rope certificates for the product supplied, confirmation of the works completed, and site sign-off — issued to you by email, with the guarantee on record. Exactly what duty holders and competent persons need on file.
